Preparation and Characterization of Zinc-substituted Bioactive Glasses with Sol–gel Method
IN PRESENT study, Different bioactive glass samples are prepared based on the following general formula: [65%SiO2–(25-X) %CaO–10% P2O5–X%ZnO)]; Ca2+ is gradually substituted with Zn2+ (percentages of X= 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 mol %) by a quick alkali-mediated sol–gel method. Development of a calcium phosphate (CP) layer on their surfaces is studied by soaking them in a simulated body fluid (SBF) for different periods. The consequent formation of the CP layer is studied by means of appropriate techniques such as X-ray diffractometry (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with an energy dispersive system (EDXS). The concentration of Ca2+, P5+ ions released from the samples into the SBF is measured by using UV-Vis Spectrophotometer and biochemical Kits. The results show that the formation of calcium phosphate layer on glass surfaces is inhibited by ZnO substitution, and strongly dependent on Zn2+ concentration.

Characteristics of a New Polymer Gel for Low-dose Dosimetry Applications
THE EFFECT of gamma irradiation on absorption properties of ….. carbolfuchsin (CF) with gelatin blended for possible use in dosimetry and measurement of radiation dose in gamma rays have been studied using UV-Visible spectrophotometer method. The gelatin (polymer gel capsulated dyed) were irradiated to different accumulated doses from 1 up to 50Gy using gamma rays source at a constant dose rate. The absorption spectra were measured using UV-Visible spectrophotometer in the wavelength range (200 to 900) nm, resulting in a decrease of the absorbance at 560nm band peak with increasing dose.

The Number of Beams and Their Arrangement in The Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy for Prostate Cancer
THIS STUDY presents a certain set of optimal physical parameters applied to the prostate cancer cases treated with the intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) technique. Generally, the physical parameters include the beam energy, number of beams, beam arrangement and the optimal segmentation. In this work, we focused on the role of the number of beams and the beam arrangement applied to enhance the IMRT plan. Three prostate cases with different PTV volume and Precise Elekta® planning were studied and 33 plans with a different number of beams and different angles were applied to identify the starting point in the optimal parameters. The obtained results had shown that in prostate cancer cases the D98 of prescribed PTV dose can be achieved with up to nine beams with accepted D30 of the rectum and accepted Dmean of femoral heads. The odd number of beams has an advantage over the even numbers of beams for getting a lower dose in the organs at risk, (OARs). The odd number of the beam with equally spaced angles showed achievable results better than that when these beams were arranged with un-equally spaced angels while in the case of the even number the results were different.

Preparation, Characterization and In vitro Evaluation of Poly (L-lactide) and Sodium Calcium Silicate Ceramic Composites
THE MAIN objectives of the present study were to fabricate …...sodium calcium silicate ceramic /poly(L-lactide) composite membranes for bone engineering applications, by using liquid-liquid phase separation. The membranes were characterized by SEM, FT-IR, TGA and TF- XRD. Examination of the SEM microphotographs revealed that the pore diameter of the composites decreased as the ceramic content increased. For the composites containing ceramic content of 20 wt% (CP20) and 30 wt% (CP30), the maximum pore diameter was 70 μm and 55 μm, respectively.
In vitro bioactivity evaluation showed that the composites were able to induce the formation of hydroxyapaptite layer on their surfaces, demonstrating their potential application in bone engineering.

Extraction, Evaluation and Comparison of Dried Egg Yolk Phospholipids From Two Different Species of Birds
EGG yolk phospholipids have a great interest in medical and food medical and food industry due to their biophysical and biological biophysical and biological characteristics. The present study extracts, crystallizes and evaluates the egg yolk phospholipids belonging two different species of birds, hen and duck. Phospholipids were extracted by solvent extraction technique, purified with silica gel, and crystallized by slow evaporation method. Egg yolk phospholipids were characterized by using high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC), XRD, FT-IR, SEM and TEM spectroscopy. Extracted phospholipids exhibited high purity and identical chemical groups but XRD, HPLC, and TEM results showed significant differences between hen and duck egg yolk phospholipids. Therefore, these results confirm that the species of birds has a more significant effect on the composition and biophysical characteristics of extracted egg yolk phospholipids, emphasizing the importance to control individual parameters for successful using of phospholipids for their specific applications as liposomes for drug delivery.

Hematological Indices for Mice Bearing Ehrlich Tumor When Treated by Liposomes Encapsulated Hemoglobin and Irradiation
TUMOR vasculature frequently fails to supply sufficient ……levels of oxygen to tumor tissue resulting in radioresistant tumor. To improve therapeutic outcome radiotherapy (RT) may be combined with liposomes encapsulated bovine hemoglobin (LEBH) as an artificial oxygen carrier. Hematological parameters and lipid peroxidation (LPx) can be indicators for tumor prediction and treatment. The aim of the present work is to considered as investigate and compare the effects of combination between radiotherapy and liposome encapsulated bovine hemoglobin as artificial oxygen carriers through hematological parameters and lipid peroxidation (LPx). This study was done through five groups of Male Swiss albino mice’s bearing Ehrlich Ascites Carcinoma (EAC) .
Blood samples were collected from mices of different groups into a tube containing heparin (heparinized tube).
Erythrogram, (LEBH+RT) group shows promising values in most measurements comparable to (RT) group and control group. Meanwhile, (Control) group shows low erythrogram values if compared to (Normal) group, but (LEH) shows the highest erythrogram values when compared to all investigated groups.
The hematological studies suggest that LEBH may have the potential of synergistic action with radiotherapy based on the tumor oxygenation effect of LEBH.
